Throwback Thursday – Memorable Book That Starts With the Letter ‘W’

wintergirls
For this throwback Thursday, I’m picking a memorable book that starts with the letter ‘W’.

This week I’m picking Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson, a haunting story of eating disorders and a competition between best friends to see who can be the skinniest.

I read this back in 2011 and thought it was an impactful read. If you haven’t read it already, it’s worth checking out.

Description (From Goodreads):
“Dead girl walking,” the boys say in the halls.
“Tell us your secret,” the girls whisper, one toilet to another.
I am that girl.
I am the space between my thighs, daylight shining through.
I am the bones they want, wired on a porcelain frame.

Lia and Cassie are best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies, competitors in a deadly contest to see who can be the skinniest. But what comes after size zero and size double-zero? When Cassie succumbs to the demons within, Lia feels she is being haunted by her friend’s restless spirit.

Let’s Talk!

Have you read any books by Laurie Halse Anderson? Which book was your favorite?
