If people ask why you like to read . . .

. . . tell them that some of your greatest friends have been found between the pages of a book.

. . . tell them that you love to travel—all over the world, real and imaginary—from the comfort of your couch.

. . . tell them that there are few things more relaxing after a long day than snuggling up with a blanket and book.

. . . tell them that reading before bed helps you fall asleep at night.

. . . tell them that those who read are scientifically proven to be more empathetic.

. . . tell them that reading makes you think and forces you to consider things from different perspectives.

. . . tell them that sometimes you like the people in books better than those in real life.

. . . tell them that every now and then you need an escape from reality.

. . . tell them that the written word is soothing.

. . . tell them that getting lost in a book is one of your favorite activities.

. . . tell them that reading can be a coping mechanism for anxiety (and other health-related issues).

. . . tell them that the online reading community is vast and supportive, and you’re happy to be part of it.

. . . tell them that reading makes you smarter.

. . . tell them that books make you feel all the feels—whether it’s happy, sad, scared, or everything in between.

. . . tell them that books are your favorite decorating item, and being surrounded by them brings you joy.

. . . tell them that reading can be done anywhere—it’s a pastime you can take with you.

. . . tell them that life makes sense when you’re surrounded by books.

  1. Oh this is just beautiful! Sometimes, I tell people it’s because reading teaches empathy. Sometimes, I tell people it’s because it’s refreshing to read about other people’s problems so I can avoid dealing with my own, LOL!

  2. I absolutely LOVE this xx

I don’t know what i’d tell them other than all that you just said ! but i’d say that reading and gaming does the exact same thing to me .. and maybe they too would understand. I’d tell them how someone I love and deeply respect gave her love of reading to me, and I never wanna let that go.
