February OwlCrate – Unboxing

Who just got their first OwlCrate? This girl! I’m very pleased with my first OwlCrate box!

Theme: “Hidden Worlds”

Featured Book

This month’s featured book was a signed copy of The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert, which includes an OwlCrate exclusive cover. I’ve already read the book, so this book will make a great addition to my bookshelf. Themed stickers and a letter were also included!

Book Description (from Goodreads): Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice’s life on the road, always a step ahead of the uncanny bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice’s grandmother, the reclusive author of a cult-classic book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice learns how bad her luck can really get: her mother is stolen away―by a figure who claims to come from the Hinterland, the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother’s stories are set. Alice’s only lead is the message her mother left behind: “Stay away from the Hazel Wood.”

Alice has long steered clear of her grandmother’s cultish fans. But now she has no choice but to ally with classmate Ellery Finch, a Hinterland superfan who may have his own reasons for wanting to help her. To retrieve her mother, Alice must venture first to the Hazel Wood, then into the world where her grandmother’s tales began―and where she might find out how her own story went so wrong.

Zipper Pouch

Included in the box was a Daughter of Smoke and Bone inspired zipper pouch, designed by artist Rosa Rodil. I adore this pouch! Right now I’m going to use it to hold extra bookmarks.

Wall Tapestry

A beautiful wall tapestry was also included this month’s box, designed by Evie Bookish. It’s huge, and my photo doesn’t even begin to do it justice. This is something I’m going to pack away until I have a room in my house for a dedicated library.

Bookish Candle

Books and candles just kind of go together (but hopefully not together-together–you don’t want to burn the poor books!) I received a Narnia inspired candle called Through the Wardrobe by Books on Candles. It smells amazing!

Next I got a skeleton key pendant necklace. This necklace was created by the OwlCrate team, inspired by the story Coraline. It arrived tucked into a cute OwlCrate pouch. I’ll definitely wear it, once I figure out which outfit it goes best with.

Sticker and Pin

I also received an Alice in Wonderland inspired sticker, designed by Naomi Lord, and an owl pin.

Bookish Extras

The OwlCrate box came with literature explaining the “Hidden Worlds” box, as well as a sneak peak into next month’s “Across the Galaxy” box. I’m already anticipating next month’s box!

  1. The wall tapestry was a crazy thing to add to that box, absolutely gorgeous. I love Owlcrate and even though I never managed to get one of their boxes, I’ll definitely try to get one soon because they’re always worth it and never disappoint!
