Together with the arrogant yet charming Thomas Cresswell, she journeys to the dark heart of Romania, home to one of Europe’s best schools of forensic medicine…and to another notorious killer, Vlad the Impaler, whose thirst for blood became legend.

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco is the second book in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. In this book, you follow Audrey Rose Wadsworth as she enters the Romanian forensic medicine academy with her best friend, Thomas Cresswell, which happens to be located in the former home of Vlad the Impaler.

My goodness, this was a fantastic book! I fall more and more in love with Audrey and Thomas the more I follow their tales of adventure.

Kerri Maniscalco’s writing is impeccable. She captures the language of the time period beautifully, and you truly feel as though you’ve been dropped into the late 1800s. The words are beautiful, but not flowery, as precise and well-executed as the blade of a scalpel.

The book starts at a galloping pace–the opening chapter is exciting, and the action continues throughout the rest of the book. I did feel as though the middle of the book was a little slow, but not unbearably so, and regardless, I would happily read the witty banter between Audrey and Thomas even without death and doom.

The story itself is wonderful. The author is truly creative and talented. I appreciate the history mixed in with the fiction, and this particular murder mystery keeps you guessing until the very end. The plot progresses nicely throughout the book, and each event thoughtfully unfolds another piece of the story. There were parts in the book that had me flat out cringing towards the end, as I imagined myself in the situations that Audrey and Thomas found themselves in–yikes! The fact that this book had the power to make me physically recoil gives credence to how well it was written.

The ending deserves a standing ovation. I liked how the story played out in the end, and I like the ever-blooming bond between Audrey and Thomas.

The characters in this series are 5-star characters. I want to take Audrey Rose and Thomas, bottle them up, and keep them forever. They are amazing characters, so vivid in detail and personality. As with Stalking Jack the Ripper, Thomas is my absolute favorite. His witty remarks never fail to bring a smile on my face. I want Audrey and Thomas to both be my friends in real life–they’re that good.

If you haven’t read these books already, make it a priority! Stalking Jack the Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula will not disappoint!

“Curiosity was a disease that plagued me, and I’d yet to find a cure.”
“Antique pages were a scent that should be bottled up and sold to those who adored the aroma.”
“Perhaps it was time for fathers to teach their sons how to behave around young women. They were not born superior, no matter how society falsely conditioned them.”

  1. Lovely lovely review and I’m sooo glad you gave it such an excellent rating! I’m putting off this book for a little while longer so I can read it when I’m a little less busy, because I really want to enjoy it 😀 I’m so excited that the third book is coming out real soon too!
