(From Goodreads) When kingdom come, there will be one.

In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born—three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.

The last queen standing gets the crown.

Three Dark Crowns is a tale of three sisters–all queens–each with her own unique talent. Among the three queens, only one will rise to rule. The other two must die.

How has it taken me so long to read this book? Honestly, the only reason why I read it is because it kept coming up in my blog feed, so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I’m glad I finally read it, because I loved it!

The three sisters are unique, each talented and cunning in their own way. Arsinoe, the naturalist, is a down to earth tom boy who has close friends and very little talent in the naturalist arena. Katharine, the poisoner, is as skittish as a mouse, weak and frail. Mirabella is fierce and strong but has a compassionate heart.

This book has many twists, though I had a feeling Arsinoe, at the very least, was a poisoner at heart. I’m very eager to see what happens in the next book. What is Katharine’s story, and what really happened to her? Which queen will rule?
